Our No. 1 objective: we have and will always deliver on food quality. It’s not just because it’s won us over 50 national U.K food awards - but because good food quality is one step towards people finding the best versions of themselves!
We choose not to buy meat that has been fed with genetically modified foods. With vegetables we always look to use micro-nutrient dense veggies to support our aim to make our food taste great and do you good too.
We follow a strong “Grains & Greens” ethos predominantly using protein, plant-ingredients, grains, natural vitamins.
To quote a married couple who experienced a great amount of healing through food, who’s sentiments we agree : “…We will admit that sometimes having a high standard for your food quality can be more expensive, but it is always worth it. Investing a little bit now into your food quality will pay off in the long run when you are healthier and feeling better (i.e. not spending money on healthcare due to poor health conditions).”
Our ingredients include those that boost your immune system
If you’re looking for ways to prevent colds, the flu, and other infections then plan your meals to include these powerful immune system boosters. Our food ingredients include the following:
Spinach - It is high content of folate, vitamin A, vitamin C, fibre, magnesium, and iron. The nutrients in spinach boost immune function and provide the body with necessary nutrients for cell division and DNA repair.
Yogurt - We use yogurts that have the phrase “live and active cultures”. These cultures may stimulate your immune system to help fight diseases.
Almonds: These contain vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant and is key to a healthy immune system. They also have healthy fats.
Turmeric: This has been used for years as an anti-inflammatory in treating both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Also it has promise as an immune booster (based on findings from animal studies) and an antiviral. Though more research is needed.
Chicken: This is high in vitamin B-6. Vitamin B-6 is an important player in many of the chemical reactions that happen in the body. It’s also vital to the formation of new and healthy red blood cells.
Raw Garlic: This is such a potent viral and bacterial agent that it can destroy the flu virus before it can transform into a full-blown virus in the body. That is because it contains sulphur compounds called allicin and allian that have a direct antiviral effect.
Spices: Most spices in general have volatile, antimicrobial oils in them that can fight off colds and flu. We use the following - turmeric, thyme, rosemary, parsley, kale, dill and coriander.
Mushrooms: Button mushrooms are high in selenium and B vitamins like riboflavin and niacin. These minerals and vitamins are necessary for the immune system to work in tip top form. Mushrooms are also high in polysaccharides, sugar-like molecules that boost immune function.
Wheat germ: This is the innermost part of the wheat kernel. It is the most nutrient rich part of the grain. The germ is rich in B vitamins, zinc, and vitamin E.
Note: No food ingredient or supplement will cure or prevent disease.
A few additional words:
Our company’s Articles of Association - i.e. think our driving philosophy includes this goal - “the purpose of the company… is to have a material positive impact on society and the environment”.
Our recruitment policy includes a commitment to diversity - even as a tiny company we employ people born in 7 different countries, and we always prefer to take on people from unemployment so as to give them a fresh start.
We donate unsold food to a Sheffield organisation called Food Works Sheffield (formerly The Real Junk Food Project Sheffield). They are a non-profit social enterprise saving food from being wasted and making it available to the people of Sheffield!.

WE HAVE HIGH STANDARDS
We’ve heightened our already rigorous food safety and health practices to create our own Standards for Health & Safety.
We focus on keeping our premises super clean
Every team member informs the manager on their health before entering our bakery.
Sanitisation of all food work surfaces in our bakery happens throughout the day.
We use BSI-standard individual, disposable wipes.
We are only accepting online orders for pickup and delivery.
All our team members practice sensible social distancing.
Masks are required in our kitchen subject to government health guidelines.
Gloves are worn for every critical food handling task.
We offer contact-free delivery.
All of our delivery couriers work to a high Covid 19 safe standard.
We’ve made sure that calling in sick is preferable to taking a chance that the person begins to become ill on the premises.
Employees are encouraged to stay home if they’re feeling sick at all.
We have a containment policy and a COVID-19 protocol in place.
In case of a Covid19 incident, we will immediately close the premises and bring in a professional, third-party service to clean, sanitise and disinfect the entire building.
All impacted team employees are placed on a paid quarantine as per the government furlough scheme.
A back-up team would be brought in to re-open the bakery, following our containment practices to prevent cross-contact between impacted staff.
We notify our third-party partners to ensure that all suppliers that support our business are aware of our status.
We will notify buyers who have placed an order for pickup in our impacted premises within a reasonable time period.
Team employees who have been quarantined are screened according to the NHS recommendations before they're allowed to return to work.
We're continuing to donate our unsold food to our chosen food rescue organisation in Sheffield.
We share all our Covid19 activities with other small food makers to help them.
We have found great resources and recommend the following - if you're a food making business or restaurant that could use them, they're all yours. Download this Essential Health & Safety Protocols (though USA originated - still useful) and these COVID-19 Protocols.
We won’t always be perfect and we’ll keep learning more about how to keep us all safe. If you have an idea you’d like to share with us, we’d love to hear from you via therussianfoodcompany@gmail.com
